Working on some arrangements for a special party later this week. The client wants a pop of yellow, so I decided to add some Billy Balls! First time using flowers in succulent arrangements, and I must say, I’m quite happy with the results!!

California coastal contemporary at Viasat

In their breathtaking new corporate headquarters in Carlsbad, California, Viasat’s coastal, laid-back style and culture matches perfectly with our custom succulent arrangements. With an indoor/outdoor feel, the lobby has large trees scattered about and long planter of bamboo, and now The Grow Zone succulents accenting the seating areas.

Feeling the vibe

Décor in the bright lobby and coffee shop is California coastal contemporary with lots of grey, white, turquoise, and light and dark wood tones. A wooden pathway through the lobby and elevated lounge areas resembles vintage beach boardwalks. In the laid-back lounge and cafe seating, pillows with garden and medallion designs were the only pops of color.

Just the right succulents and cacti

Yellow seemed to be a common color throughout, so I immediately knew I wanted grafted “Moon cactus” in bright yellow. Keeping it bright and cheery, I opted to go with other leafy succulents in rich greens with hints of red and yellow; no pastel rosette succulents here!

Portulacaria afra – simple green
Crassula ovata ‘ET’s Fingers’ variegated
Crassula perforata ‘Variegata’ – stacked pagoda type leaves of green and pale yellow

Crassula cultrate
Sedum hernandezii – bright emerald “bean” shaped leaves with small yellow blooms
Notocactus magnificus “Balloon Cactus” – chosen for golden yellow spines
Haworthia fasciata – Zebra Plant

Perfectly contained

For the containers, simple white ceramic bowls and planters match the cool vibe, along with clay bowls and pots that are grey on the top and turquoise glazed on the bottom to mirror the grey tones and blue in the lobby chairs and sofas.
